VFW Post 7621 Ray Lau, the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States Post 7621 — Three Forks, MT. The post dates to 1923, when veterans home from the World Wars wanted a room of their own and a way to keep serving after the uniform came off.
The work is ordinary and steady. A flag detail at a funeral. A winter drive that fills a corner of the hall with gifts. A scholarship evening where the comrades hand an envelope to a student and then go back to the coffee. None of it is loud. All of it is the point of the charter.

Notes from the first meeting

Showing up for the winter gift drive — Three Forks
By spring the hall had the winter gift drive underway. Nothing about it was complicated. The Post 7621 set a date, split the jobs, and showed up. A few neighbors who are not members came for the afternoon and stayed to ask about the next meeting — Three Forks.

Late summer the post looked back at the notebook. The honor detail had been out more than once, the community table had fed a crowded room, and the officers reminded everyone that the next business meeting is the third Wednesday at 6:30 PM.
