VFW Post 4061 Royal Gorge. Its post has met since 1967 — Canon City, CO. The charter came in the years after the Second World War and Korea, and the comrades who stayed treated the monthly meeting as a standing promise: show up, look after one another, and leave the town a little better.

Notes from the first meeting

By spring the hall had the spring scholarship underway. Nothing about it was complicated. The Post 4061 set a date, split the jobs, and showed up. A few neighbors who are not members came for the afternoon and stayed to ask about the next meeting — Canon City.
