VFW Post 1678. Its post has met since 1970 — Center City, MN. The charter came in the years after the Second World War and Korea, and the comrades who stayed treated the monthly meeting as a standing promise: show up, look after one another, and leave the town a little better.
People point to the post for the Memorial Day observance and for the quieter help that never makes a program — Center City. The comrades would rather be useful than famous, which is why the hall still smells like coffee on meeting night.
Meetings are the first Thursday at 7:00 PM, at the hall — Center City. This page is a sample so neighbors can see the shape of the work. The group itself has not claimed the page, so the stories here are an illustration, written in the voice the post might use.

Notes from the first meeting
VFW Post 1678. The year opens the usual way: a short meeting, a full pot of coffee, and a list of local families the post already knows. The comrades voted to keep the spring scholarship on the calendar and to pass the word person to person — Center City, MN.

Showing up for the spring scholarship — Center City
By spring the hall had the spring scholarship underway. Nothing about it was complicated. The Post 1678 set a date, split the jobs, and showed up. A few neighbors who are not members came for the afternoon and stayed to ask about the next meeting — Center City.

What the notebook says so far
Late summer the post looked back at the notebook. The honor detail had been out more than once, the community table had fed a crowded room, and the officers reminded everyone that the next business meeting is the first Thursday at 7:00 PM. This note is a sample of how the post might tell that year — Center City, MN.
