Legion Post #198

Saint Joe AR

American Legion Post 198 John Thomas Rainbolt, the American Legion Post 198 — Saint Joe, AR. The post dates to 1965, when veterans home from the Second World War and Korea wanted a room of their own and a way to keep serving after the uniform came off.

People point to the post for the Memorial Day observance and for the quieter help that never makes a program — Saint Joe. The Legionnaires would rather be useful than famous, which is why the hall still smells like coffee on meeting night.

Meetings are the third Wednesday at 6:30 PM, at the hall — Saint Joe. This page is a sample so neighbors can see the shape of the work. The group itself has not claimed the page, so the stories here are an illustration, written in the voice the post might use.

    Notes from the first meeting

American Legion Post 198 John Thomas Rainbolt. The year opens the usual way: a short meeting, a full pot of coffee, and a list of local families the post already knows. The Legionnaires voted to keep the spring scholarship on the calendar and to pass the word person to person — Saint Joe, AR.

Showing up for the spring scholarship — Saint Joe

By spring the hall had the spring scholarship underway. Nothing about it was complicated. The Post 198 set a date, split the jobs, and showed up. A few neighbors who are not members came for the afternoon and stayed to ask about the next meeting — Saint Joe.

What the notebook says so far

Late summer the post looked back at the notebook. The honor detail had been out more than once, the community table had fed a crowded room, and the officers reminded everyone that the next business meeting is the third Wednesday at 6:30 PM. This note is a sample of how the post might tell that year — Saint Joe, AR.
