Legion Post #149 — New Zion, SC. Service and a meeting hall — New Zion.
- Legion Post #149
- New Zion, SC
American Legion Post 149 Black River, the American Legion Post 149 — New Zion, SC. The post dates to 1954, when veterans home from the Second World War and Korea wanted a room of their own and a way to keep serving after the uniform came off.
The work is ordinary and steady. A flag detail at a funeral. A winter drive that fills a corner of the hall with gifts. A scholarship evening where the Legionnaires hand an envelope to a student and then go back to the coffee. None of it is loud. All of it is the point of the charter.
The regular meeting is the first Thursday at 7:00 PM. Anyone planning to visit should confirm the night before they come, because a funeral detail or a weather delay can move it. Between meetings the Legionnaires stay in touch the old way: at the hall, and through the officers listed on this sample site — New Zion, SC.

Notes from the first meeting
American Legion Post 149 Black River. The year opens the usual way: a short meeting, a full pot of coffee, and a list of local families the post already knows. The Legionnaires voted to keep the spring scholarship on the calendar and to pass the word person to person — New Zion, SC. - Apr 9, 2026
Showing up for the spring scholarship — New Zion
By spring the hall had the spring scholarship underway. Nothing about it was complicated. The Post 149 set a date, split the jobs, and showed up. A few neighbors who are not members came for the afternoon and stayed to ask about the next meeting — New Zion. - Aug 21, 2026
What the notebook says so far
Late summer the post looked back at the notebook. The honor detail had been out more than once, the community table had fed a crowded room, and the officers reminded everyone that the next business meeting is the first Thursday at 7:00 PM. This note is a sample of how the post might tell that year — New Zion, SC.
