Missoula #883. Its detachment has met since 1988 — MISSOULA, MT. The charter came in the years after Vietnam and the years that followed, and the members who stayed treated the monthly meeting as a standing promise: show up, look after one another, and leave the town a little better.
People point to the detachment for the Memorial Day observance and for the quieter help that never makes a program — MISSOULA. The members would rather be useful than famous, which is why the hall still smells like coffee on meeting night.

Notes from the first meeting

Showing up for the spring scholarship — MISSOULA
By spring the hall had the spring scholarship underway. Nothing about it was complicated. The Detachment 883 set a date, split the jobs, and showed up. A few neighbors who are not members came for the afternoon and stayed to ask about the next meeting — MISSOULA.

What the notebook says so far
Late summer the detachment looked back at the notebook. The honor detail had been out more than once, the community table had fed a crowded room, and the officers reminded everyone that the next business meeting is the second Tuesday at 7:00 PM.
