Carmen Ramputi #861. Its detachment has met since 1974 — Beacon, NY. The charter came in the years after the Second World War and Korea, and the members who stayed treated the monthly meeting as a standing promise: show up, look after one another, and leave the town a little better.
The work is ordinary and steady. A flag detail at a funeral. A winter drive that fills a corner of the hall with gifts. A scholarship evening where the members hand an envelope to a student and then go back to the coffee. None of it is loud. All of it is the point of the charter.
The regular meeting is 3rd Thursday, 7:00 PM. Anyone planning to visit should confirm the night before they come, because a funeral detail or a weather delay can move it. Between meetings the members stay in touch the old way: at the hall, and through the officers listed on this sample site — Beacon, NY.

Showing up for the Memorial Day wreath — Beacon
By spring the hall had the Memorial Day wreath underway. Nothing about it was complicated. The Detachment 861 set a date, split the jobs, and showed up. A few neighbors who are not members came for the afternoon and stayed to ask about the next meeting — Beacon.

What the notebook says so far
Late summer the detachment looked back at the notebook. The honor detail had been out more than once, the community table had fed a crowded room, and the officers reminded everyone that the next business meeting is 3rd Thursday, 7:00 PM. This note is a sample of how the detachment might tell that year — Beacon, NY.
