- MCL Detachment #697
- Placerville, CA
- 2nd Wednesday, 7:00 PM
In 1991 a handful of veterans chartered Detachment 697 — Placerville, CA. From that first meeting the detachment grew into a hall that still marks the year with a memorial service, a community project, and a table full of people who know one another’s stories.
People point to the detachment for the Memorial Day observance and for the quieter help that never makes a program — Placerville. The members would rather be useful than famous, which is why the hall still smells like coffee on meeting night.
The regular meeting is 2nd Wednesday, 7:00 PM. Anyone planning to visit should confirm the night before they come, because a funeral detail or a weather delay can move it. Between meetings the members stay in touch the old way: at the hall, and through the officers listed on this sample site — Placerville, CA.

Showing up for the Memorial Day wreath — Placerville
By spring the hall had the Memorial Day wreath underway. Nothing about it was complicated. The Detachment 697 set a date, split the jobs, and showed up. A few neighbors who are not members came for the afternoon and stayed to ask about the next meeting — Placerville. - Aug 21, 2026
What the notebook says so far
Late summer the detachment looked back at the notebook. This note is a sample of how the detachment might tell that year — Placerville, CA.
