Cpl Kevin J Reinhard #189. Its detachment has met since 1982 — Avenel, NJ. The charter came in the years after Vietnam and the years that followed, and the members who stayed treated the monthly meeting as a standing promise: show up, look after one another, and leave the town a little better.
People point to the detachment for the Memorial Day observance and for the quieter help that never makes a program — Avenel. The members would rather be useful than famous, which is why the hall still smells like coffee on meeting night.
The regular meeting is Date/Time: 2nd Monday, 7:30 PM; Thursday: Date/Time: 2nd Thursday, 7:30 PM. Anyone planning to visit should confirm the night before they come, because a funeral detail or a weather delay can move it. Between meetings the members stay in touch the old way: at the hall, and through the officers listed on this sample site — Avenel, NJ.

Notes from the first meeting
Cpl Kevin J Reinhard #189. The year opens the usual way: a short meeting, a full pot of coffee, and a list of local families the detachment already knows. The members voted to keep a Saturday of hall repairs on the calendar and to pass the word person to person — Avenel, NJ. - Apr 9, 2026
Showing up for a Saturday of hall repairs — Avenel
By spring the hall had a Saturday of hall repairs underway. Nothing about it was complicated. The Detachment 189 set a date, split the jobs, and showed up. A few neighbors who are not members came for the afternoon and stayed to ask about the next meeting — Avenel. - Aug 21, 2026
What the notebook says so far
Late summer the detachment looked back at the notebook. The honor detail had been out more than once, the community table had fed a crowded room, and the officers reminded everyone that the next business meeting is Date/Time: 2nd Monday, 7:30 PM; Thursday: Date/Time: 2nd Thursday, 7:30 PM. This note is a sample of how the detachment might tell that year — Avenel, NJ.
