Purpose

MCL Detachment #1495

American Legion, Farmington MO

In 1959 a handful of veterans chartered Detachment 1495 — Farmington, MO. From that first meeting the detachment grew into a hall that still marks the year with a memorial service, a community project, and a table full of people who know one another’s stories.

The work is ordinary and steady. A flag detail at a funeral. A winter drive that fills a corner of the hall with gifts. A scholarship evening where the members hand an envelope to a student and then go back to the coffee. None of it is loud. All of it is the point of the charter.

The regular meeting is 3rd Thursday, 7:00 PM. Anyone planning to visit should confirm the night before they come, because a funeral detail or a weather delay can move it. Between meetings the members stay in touch the old way: at the hall, and through the officers listed on this sample site — Farmington, MO.

Showing up for the winter gift drive — Farmington

By spring the hall had the winter gift drive underway. Nothing about it was complicated. The Detachment 1495 set a date, split the jobs, and showed up. A few neighbors who are not members came for the afternoon and stayed to ask about the next meeting — Farmington.

What the notebook says so far

This note is a sample of how the detachment might tell that year — Farmington, MO.
