Ware #140. Its detachment has met since 1959 — WARE, MA. The charter came in the years after the Second World War and Korea, and the members who stayed treated the monthly meeting as a standing promise: show up, look after one another, and leave the town a little better.
The work is ordinary and steady. A flag detail at a funeral. A winter drive that fills a corner of the hall with gifts. A scholarship evening where the members hand an envelope to a student and then go back to the coffee. None of it is loud. All of it is the point of the charter.
The regular meeting is 2nd Sunday, 12:00 PM. Anyone planning to visit should confirm the night before they come, because a funeral detail or a weather delay can move it. By spring the hall had the spring scholarship underway. Nothing about it was complicated. The Detachment 140 set a date, split the jobs, and showed up. A few neighbors who are not members came for the afternoon and stayed to ask about the next meeting — WARE.
