Maine Leatherneck #1361. Its detachment has met since 1951 — Madison, ME. The charter came in the years after the Second World War and Korea, and the members who stayed treated the monthly meeting as a standing promise: show up, look after one another, and leave the town a little better.
Over the years the detachment has taken on the jobs a town actually asks for: rides to a clinic, a meal after a funeral, help with a ramp, a speaker for a school program. The members keep a notebook of what got done and what is still open, and they read it aloud before the meeting adjourns.
Meetings are 3rd Thursday, 6:00 PM, at the hall — Madison. This page is a sample so neighbors can see the shape of the work. The group itself has not claimed the page, so the stories here are an illustration, written in the voice the detachment might use.
