South Central Mass #1094. Its detachment has met since 1966 — Sturbridge, MA. The charter came in the years after the Second World War and Korea, and the members who stayed treated the monthly meeting as a standing promise: show up, look after one another, and leave the town a little better.

By spring the hall had the Memorial Day wreath underway. Nothing about it was complicated. The Detachment 1094 set a date, split the jobs, and showed up. A few neighbors who are not members came for the afternoon and stayed to ask about the next meeting — Sturbridge.
